Judge Self began his service as district judge in January of 2004.  Judge Self practiced law from 1984 until his election to the bench.  He is a member of the Bossier, Shreveport, and Louisiana Bar Associations, having served as the Young Lawyer Section Chair in 1983 and was a member of the Board of Governors.  Judge Self previously served as Chief Judge of the 26th Judicial District Court and is an instructor at the Louisiana Criminal Justice Academy.  He received his undergraduate degree from Louisiana Tech University and his law degree from Louisiana State University.
